We interrupt your daily broadcast of the show called life with a mysterious letter received from a special someone. Yes, a letter (and not an e-mail, or a text message, or a DM) in a ‘wiry’ handwriting.
Here we go:
To whomsoever it may concern (mostly Millennials and Gen Z),
Let me begin by writing that I forgive you if you have forgotten me. I mean, it’s not easy to do that given what a hot number I am (and was, back in the day). But then…you haven’t seen me around in ages.
I come from a forgotten time when people wore rebellion on their sleeves. I come from a laidback era where the simpler things in life were cherished. Perhaps the Gen Z is bringing this time back from the dead. Perhaps, like they say in fashion, the old becomes the new again. No wonder celebrities young and old are flaunting those of my kind. I guess we’re back, baby!
And I like that.
I am a symbol of being unbothered and lo-fi and chill. I am exactly what you want me to be. I used to go from your ears to your hand to your pocket to your bag to the first of your cell-phones (and maybe even early smartphones, mind you!). But when you’ll lay eyes on me once again, you’ll realise I perhaps went beyond: A connection to your mind and your heart and your soul.
Remember when you would twist me and turn me and fiddle with me? Snuck me in at your school, or spent nights with me glued to Game of Thrones in your college hostel? Perhaps, your elder sibling did. Or perhaps your parents – you must have seen in the family albums.
Remember when we would vibe without worrying about battery lives? Or get lost in musical range and not Bluetooth range? Not that wireless is not cool. It’s amazing. But there’s something so liberating about having a connection to your world – be it movies or music or simply pretending to listen to music so that no one would bother you. That’s what you used to tell me.
Yeah, the wire used to be your own DND signal. And it could be once again.
Because, my fam, nostalgia is back.
I am back.

Yup, that was…wow. Ah, are you lost in trippy nostalgia, too? Because we definitely are.
To be honest, we’ve quite missed the friendly wired hearables.
